I’m certain it was this power bow that got me my first job out of college. I wore this top and skirt to my senior portfolio show when I graduated with my bachelors degree in fashion design in March 2012. I had my portfolio on display, my dress form, Vivien, (I named her after my favorite girlĀ Vivien Leigh) sporting my designs, and so many copies of my resume and business cards. There were plenty of local professionals there to check out the fresh talent, and lots of recruiters as well. I made 100 copies of my business card and was able to give away almost all of them. It was a long, exhausting, and gratifying evening. A couple months later while living in Boston with my sister Sharon I was contacted by one of the recruiters who had taken my card that night and had shown my technical flat sketches to Banana Republic in New York. They were interested and I started with them a week later!
I’ll throw in a few pictures of the night of my portfolio show just because pictures are fun! My sweet, thoughtful, sentimental sister Sharon flew out from Boston to be with me and celebrate the accomplishment of graduating from college and finishing a chapter of my life that shaped me into who I am today. She was 3 1/2 months pregnant at the time and I stuffed her baby belly into a snug outfit I had made so that she could be a walking advertisement for me. She’s the best.
